The Swim for Life Swimmer progressions challenge school aged children 5 years and up to learn safe entries, deep water support, underwater skills and swimming strokes. These swimmer levels also develop everlasting habits for healthy, active living. Water Smart education is part of every level.

Location: 25 metre Program Pool

Level 1
Safe entries and exits from shallow water
Jump into deep water wearing a life jacket
Open eyes, hold breath and exhale while underwater
Floats, rollovers and glides (front and back)
Flutter kick on front and back (3-5m)
Wearing a life jacket, jump into deep water, tread water (30 sec.) and kick on back (5-10m)

Level 2
Jump into deep water and exit, plus side roll wearing a life jacket
Pick up object from chest deep water
Front crawl and back crawl (10-15m)
Whip kick in a vertical position (15-30 sec)
Jump into deep water, tread water (30 sec) and swim/kick (15-25m)
Flutter kick fitness intervals (4 x 9-12 m with 10 - 15 sec rests between)

Level 3
Kneeling dive and forward roll entries into deep water
Handstand and front somersault while underwater
Front crawl and back crawl (10-15m)
Whip kick on back (10-15m)
Rolls into deep water, tread water (1 min) and swim (50m)
Flutter kick fitness intervals (4 x 25m with 15 - 20 sec rests between)

Level 4
Standing dive into deep water
Treading water (2 mins)
Underwater swim (5m)
Front crawl and back crawl (20 - 50m)
Whip kick on front, plus breaststroke arms drill (10 - 15m)
Front/back crawl fitness intervals, plus front crawl sprints

Level 5
Shallow dive and tuck jumps into deep water
Back somersault while underwater
Egg beater kick (30 - 60 sec)
Front crawl and back crawl (50m)
Breast stroke (15-25m)
Head up front crawl (10 - 15m)
Fitness intervals and sprints

Level 6
Stride jump and compact jump
Stationary Lifesaving kick (30-60 sec)
Underwater swim (10 - 15m) to recover an object
Front crawl and back crawl (50-100m)
Breast Stroke (25 - 50m)
Eggbeater kick on back and scissor kick (10-15m)
Fitness intervals and sprints plus 300m
Workout- ready for Rookie Patrol
